The responsibilities & the impact YOU will have:

Automation Engineering Manager isresponsible for developing a highly capable team to provide automation support within a 24/7 high volume manufacturing plant including the plant facilities services. You will have responsibility for managing a team of Automation engineers with accountability for major site strategic areas, including HMI and SCADA, Vision Systems, Facilities, Electrical systems, Safety systems, Front line Support, I4.0 AI and ML. This will ensure the highest standards for automation are being developed and delivered by the team in accordance with Medical Device regulated industry.

Collaboration with the leadership team is essential to develop the site annual strategic objectives and business goals to prioritise resource alignment in accordance with site commitments.

You will also help define the automation strategy for the site in terms of technology roadmap development in order to futureproof the business.

Responsibilities/Requirements

  • Identify and develop key external strategic partners to help build on and supplement the capability of the automation team.
  • Work with the various functional leads and disciplines across the site to develop improved methods and systems to improve the quality and value of the automation projects and services.
  • Ensure collaboration is developed and maintained outside of the manufacturing plant in order to leverage and influence best practices within JJV.
  • Build relationships with early talent facilitators to ensure there is a strong and stable pipeline of talent feeding into the automation group.
  • Good technical knowledge across a range of automation control systems is essential as well as excellent people skills.
  • Solid team building capabilities including the ability to understand the needs of team members and provide mentoring and development opportunities to help grow the team
  • Willingness to invest time in growing the department including introduction of tools and systems to add value to automation solutions delivery.
  • Strong planning and goal setting capability to maximize the impact of the team on site.
  • Support and develop close collaboration between associates in Engineering functions, R&D, Operations, Process, IT Regulatory, Quality Assurance, etc
  • Development of key strategic relationships with other J&J sites institutions and third level institutions, to facilitate cross site sharing of ideas and collaboration.
  • Be a role model by setting the appropriate norms and behavioural traits for all members of the automation engineering team
  • Actively contribute to and participate in the development and implementation of JJVs Engineering strategic objectives.
  • Act as support for senior management team for technical support as needed.
  • Solid team building capabilities including the ability to understand the needs of team members and provide mentoring and development opportunities to help grow the team
  • Willingness to invest time in growing the department including introduction of tools and systems to add value to automation solutions delivery.
  • Support and develop close collaboration between associates in Engineering functions, R&D, Operations, Process, IT Regulatory, Quality Assurance, etc
  • Development of key strategic relationships with other J&J sites institutions and third level institutions, to facilitate cross site sharing of ideas and collaboration.
  • Actively contribute to and participate in the development and implementation of JJVs Engineering strategic objectives.
  • Act as support for senior management team for technical support as needed.

Qualifications

We would love to hear from YOU, if you have the following experience and education

  • Primary Degree (Level 8) in an appropriate engineering or Computer Science or related subject
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in related field
  • Master’s degree in a relevant Engineering discipline would be considered advantageous
  • Relevant experience with automated control systems.
  • Strong PLC background in Siemens S7, APT, Allen Bradley ControlLogix 5000, Pilz Safety PLCs and Wonderware Intouch/ArchestrA HMI software.
  • Strong working knowledge of and application of I4.0
  • Knowledge of printer systems, vision systems, robotics, BCR and RFID systems would be beneficial
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, root cause analysis and risk assessments with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative and deliver results.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with proven leadership abilities.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and validation in a regulated (FDA or IMB) environment an advantage.
  • Must be flexible and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience of lean concepts such as 5S and standard work would be an advantage.
